It is no surprise that children learn better on their own terms.  Logan is no exception.  What you have to do with children with autism is to allow them time to process what you've asked and respond.  That's right.  You have to give them time to respond.

Considering that most children with autism have auditory processing delays, giving him time to respond takes lots of patience.  I can look at Logan and see when he is processing it and trying to formulate an answer.  I can also tell when he clearly didn't understand what I asked or wasn't paying attention.  This took lots and lots of practice.  It's a standard that I strive to achieve every day but sometimes fall short.  Don't believe me?  I leave you with a link to this post where I wrote about this exact topic back in January of this year.  It even gives an example of my failure.
