Of course, it helps that I agreed to add him to the Rogers Academy. It's easier to agree to let your child be homeschooled when someone else is doing it. Kinda like sending them off to school.
It became apparent quickly that JoJo is fantastic at regurgitating facts but not a great thinker. This is not his fault. He has been spoon fed facts in school that would be great for him to remember. You don't need to think on standardized testing. We started out the year at Ambleside Year 3 . This was entirely too much reading for him. I then made the executive decision to let him do Year 3.5 which has minimal history readings in it. This will enable us to spend the rest of the year learning how to narrate and use our brain without overloading us. Without further ado, here's JoJo's independent lessons for the rest of the year.
Copywork ( his handwriting is atrocious )
Singapore Math 2B & 3A
Bible
memorize Psalms 1-15
Awana
History
The Men Who Found America
Four Great Americans
Geography
Home Geography for Primary Grades

He will also participate in the Reading Challenge program at our local library.

That's it for the year. He will finish 2 terms with us. These terms are more about getting him to learn to think on his own and getting him used to homeschool. It's quite a different animal than public school where there are lots of children. Next year, he will attempt the regular Ambleside schedule.

ReplyDeleteThanks! We were being silly playing with the phone while we waited for something.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful that this boy is joining you. It sounds like he will be learning a lot more than if he were going to the public school. That's for sure!
