Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

In Whoville December 2010

I had this post set for last March 2nd but time got away from me.  It didn't help that I had just returned from a funeral out of state.  Or that we were seriously behind in our lessons anyway.  This year, in an effort to add more fun to our life and lessons, I have made plans to celebrate this fun occasion.

Today we will start the day with green eggs and ham.  How cute are they?  You can jump over to Random Thoughts of a Supermom for a fun candy  recipe and be cooler than me too! What celebration of Dr. Seuss would be complete without it? Trust me that the eggs were not edible although they looked super cute green.  I'll have to remember next year to have green food coloring in the house and not use lime jello.  Oh well, the kids thought it was fun.

We are going to spend the morning at park day with our other unsocialized homeschool friends then watch Horton Hears A Who after  lunch.  Then we can compare how well they did turning the book into a movie. I always love the conversations that result.

Both kids are going to attempt a poem in Dr Seuss style to their grandmothers.  What grandmother wouldn't be thrilled to get a poem from one of their grandkids? I can get most of his books from the library or on audiobook so we will have lots of examples to follow.

Our copywork will be Dr. Seuss as well as talking in rhyme all day.  That should be fun!  What are you doing to celebrate this famous author's birthday?

  1. So what did you think of the movie? I've not read the book but did see the movie and thought it was great!
